Christmas in New York

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, we are talking about christmas. We know that  some of you international students might be spending christmas in the city, so we decided to put together a list of a few things you should consider doing for some added christmas spirit. Not yet in the city? Fill out the form we have on our website and we can help you with a place to stay!

Rockefeller Christmas Tree

This is a classic, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you should! The tree is usually a Norway Spruce and seeing the finished decorated tree is worth a look. It definitely makes you want to go home and decorate your own tree.

Macy´s Christmas Floor

And, talking about christmas decorations. During christmas, Macy’s have a whole area on the 7th floor dedicated to christmas decorations. They also play the most iconic christmas music which makes you feel like you’re strolling around Santa’s workshop. They have pre-decorated trees, in all sorts of different themes, and you can grab whatever you want for a very reasonable price.

Go Ice Skating in Bryant Park & Visit the Winter Village

Bryant Park transforms into Winter Village every christmas. You can go ice skating or just take a stroll around the park. They have several tiny stores, with stuff that make great christmas presents. There’s also always some great food and drinks to try out.

Department Store Window Displays

Grab some hot chocolate and go for a window display tour. Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Barney’s all have window displays which are all christmas inspired. They are all located on 5th avenue, except Macy’s, so start at the top and make your way down. Also, Saks Fifth Avenue have their christmas light show every 10 minutes, which is definitely worth seeing.

Santa Con

It’s like Halloween, but you can only dress up like Santa. Basically, it is an organized bar crawl that is done all over the US. In New York it will be on December 8th, and if you’re over 21 y/o you should definitely join. It is free to join, although donations can give you some added benefits.

Hopefully you found our tips helpful and you’re just as excited about christmas as we are. New York City is magical during the holidays, and there are a million things that will put you in the spirit. If you have any other recommendations we would love to see them.

Happy holidays,
